William A. Truban, III (“William”) was raised in Winchester, Virginia. William graduated from the University of Virginia in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy with High Distinction from the Frank Batten School of Leadership Public Policy. Before attending law school, William worked at Owen & Truban as a legal assistant. William graduated from Washington & Lee University School of Law in 2022 with a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude.

William focuses his practice on estate planning, estate administration, small business planning, and employment matters. William’s estate planning practice includes drafting wills, living trusts, powers of attorney, advanced medical directives, guidance on retitling assets to minimize probate procedures, special needs trusts, gun trusts, elder care issues, and planning for disability or incapacity. William also advises clients on the estate administration process, including assisting with inventories, accountings, trustee appointment, and other probate matters.

William’s employment practice focuses on compliance and providing human resources counseling, including developing employee handbooks, drafting company policies, preparing employment contracts, and representing clients in administrative proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Virginia Employment Commission, and the Virginia Office of Civil Rights. William conducts internal investigations and keeps clients in compliance with federal and state employment laws and regulations. William also advises on restrictive covenants and their enforcement.

Prior to joining Owen & Truban, PLC, William worked at Williams Mullen in Richmond, Virginia as a member of its Labor, Employment & Immigration practice group, where he practiced employment law, traditional labor law, and education law. William is a member of the Virginia State Bar and the Virginia Bar Association’s Labor & Employment Section. William is a member of the Board of Directors for the Sacred Heart Center, located in Richmond, Virginia, where he chairs the Human Resources Committee. William is an Eagle Scout and alumni of Troop 2 of Winchester, Virginia.

William is licensed to practice law in Virginia. William lives in Winchester with his fiancée, Mary Catherine Talbott, and their two coonhounds.
